Hartwell Lake is one of the Southeast’s largest and most popular lakes. The Army Corp of Engineers created the lake by building the Hartwell Dam and impounding the Savannah River and its major contributors, the Seneca and Tugaloo River basins. The lake is approximately 56 miles long and comprises over 55000 acres of water and nearly 1000 miles of shoreline.
The lake forms the state boundary between Georgia and South Carolina along the western side of the lake, Interstate 85 bisects the lake and provides easy access for visitors and full-time residents. Hartwell Lake is well known for its year-round recreational use and great fishing.
